Designed as an oceanfront retreat on the shores of the tranquil, tropical Haitang Bay, Rosewood Sanya is the first luxury resort in mainland China by Rosewood Hotel & Resorts. The brand’s philosophy is ‘A Sense of Place’, using natural materials and decorative objects from the surrounding area to create a contemporary hotel that celebrates the nature and culture around it.
The building itself is comprised of a tower – the ‘lighthouse’ – with residential apartments above and the sinuous, curved hotel space at its base, and a connected ‘rock formation’, which houses the Sanya Forum convention centre. The interiors achieve a sense of comfortable refinement, with elegantly crafted furniture, soft colors and carefully curated art. Water and bathing are a key part of the restorative atmosphere. Of the hotel’s 241 rooms, many have sunken bathtubs with great views across the sea, and 45 have their own private balcony plunge pools.
